I was in my glory for the entirety of this Lake George, NY engagement session and you’re about to find out why…
Since Renee and Conor live in Alexandria, VA, it took us a number of attempts to pin down a date they’d be in town that I was also available. We finally landed on September 17th and I marked the date on my calendar, then got busy crossing fingers for a rain-free evening. See, Renee grew up spending Summers on her family’s boat on Lake George and when she started bringing Conor –who hails from Long Island– upstate, she quickly introduced him to the place that holds so many incredible memories for her. Turns out, Conor quickly made himself at home on LG – swimming its blue waters, camping its quiet islands, and watching the ever-changing colors of the skies above him as night falls across the lake. So when it came down to choosing a location for their engagement session, it seemed that Lake George was a no-brainer. But to simply be on the shores of LG wouldn’t cut it… they wanted to be out the water, enjoying the solitude and the gorgeous views.
The day of their session was overcast… the sky was a blanket of white, but I’ll take that any day over rain. I met Renee and Conor at the marina where Renee’s family stores their boat and we boarded and headed north to an island in Log Bay. We were in a race against the fading light, but Renee and Conor managed to explore the island, enjoy some quiet time with a glass of wine beside the water (seated on Renee’s dad’s baby blanket. I know, right? Cue my sentimental silent tears) and prove that there’s no better time to dip your feet in LG than September… it’s like wading into bath water.
On the return boat trip home, we caught the most magnificent sunset (props to Renee’s dad, who was our captain, for rotating it just so so I could catch that pink glowing light on their faces!).
It was the perfect night. I drove home in silence with the colors of the sunset burned across my brain and thinking, “Damn, I have the best job in the world.” I am even more excited now than I was before to capture Renee and Conor’s wedding day this November as they say “I do” at the Canfield Casino.
