Melody and Ron’s wedding at Southern Vermont College in Bennington turned out to be as memorable as I’d anticipated. Driving up the long hill through campus I had no idea what to expect when I reached the top, but when the main academic building came into view I was absolutely gobsmacked. I had seen a number of photos online and on Melody’s phone when she’d excitedly shown me the venue when we met. Yet to see it in person is a whole other experience altogether: it sits at the top of a long sloping hill as green and perfectly manicured as a golf course and the building itself is like something straight out of a fairytale. Once inside, there’s no shortage of awesome little nooks and crannies to explore. And standing upon one of the building’s many balconies, you look out on sweeping mountain views and down upon the Bennington Monument. And the architecture. Don’t even get me started on the architecture… just stunning!
One of my favorite parts of the day was capturing Melody and her bridesmaids as they got ready in one of the very classrooms Melody used to sit in as a nursing student at SVC. The clean, white light pouring in through the wall of windows made it easy to forget we were in an academic building and even easier to imagine we were in a far off wing of a grand castle. Watching Melody stand out on the balcony and take in the view as she had done so many times as a student was a pretty cool moment.
The staff at SVU couldn’t have been more fun to work beside – the team oriented approach made the day run so smoothly, which reminded me at every turn just how happy I was to be there. It may have been my first time shooting a wedding at SVC, but I sure hope it’s not my last.
As for Melody and Ron, they couldn’t be sweeter and it shows in every photo. I wish them so so so much joy on this awesome journey.
