Amy and Mike’s Franklin Plaza wedding was truly perfect.

If you know anything about Amy, you that she is adore-able in the truest sense of the word. I know because I’ve known her since she was a newborn baby. When I was a kid, I used to cuddle her and squeeze her and smell her soft baby hair and wonder what she’d be like when she grew up. Even as a child she possessed a signature smile that couldn’t be rivaled. That is, until she met Mike. Mike, who is just as easy to adore. Mike, with the same wide, shiny, light-up-a room kind of smile. Together they make love look easy.

The best thing about being a photographer is that you get to see a lot of those little details on a wedding day that most people miss. You get to hear the sweet soundbites couples whisper into each other’s ears when they first set eyes on each other. You get to witness the glances, the stolen kisses, and every little moment in between. But some moments, some gestures stand out bigger than others.

The moment I’ll never forget amid all the other sweet moments on Amy and Mike’s wedding day was their first look. Mike was so full of anticipation to see Amy and as she walked up slowly behind him, he extended his hand back. He reached for her.

The action was subtle. But Amy saw it, smiled, reached back.

And then their hands connected. He turned. He saw her. She saw him. They squeezed each other tight.

That moment of connection, of assurance. The knowledge that when he reaches for her, she’ll be there reaching right back for him. It made me choke back joy.

That is love.

May they never forget to reach for each other and to be the warmest hand the other could ever want to hold.
