When Aimee’s sister and matron of honor, Andrea, contacted me in 2015 to inquire whether I’d be willing to travel to shoot her sister’s Fort Zachary Taylor Wedding, I was ecstatic. The thought of photographing in new and inspiring environments always thrills me. And so when I found out that her sister, whose wedding she was helping to plan, had hopes of tying the knot with her fiance Andy on the shore of Key West, I was over the moon!
Although I will never, ever tire of photographing in the gorgeous parks and streets of the Capital Region, or in the fields and mountains of the Adirondacks or Catskills, I am a wanderer at heart, and photographing a wedding in a fresh setting among new and different elements just makes my heart leap. Shooting Aimee and Andy’s wedding on the beach at Fort Zachary Taylor did just that – from the floral and fauna, to the sand and sea, to the tropical sunlight – there wasn’t a moment I didn’t love… even while we raced against the setting sun and drizzling rain to finish up photos before the light fell behind the horizon, I was in my glory.
And watching these two fall even deeper in love as they played together while the sun rose over Key West during their Sweetheart Session (see it here if you missed it) and then as they celebrated their marriage with over one hundred guests from far and wide was something magical. Until I get another opportunity like this one, I’ll continue to dream about my camera in my hand, the sun on my shoulders, the sand in between my toes, and the beach breeze across my cheek.
