Schodack, NY Family Photography | Covyn & Summit

The weekend I took the first two photos below we had gone Tentrr camping on the Little Delaware River to celebrate Martyn’s birthday. The whole trip was far from the rural awesomeness I had envisioned when I booked it as a surprise for him. It rained. It rained the entire time. The little lazy river that the tent was situated beside that I’d looked at in the photos and imagined us wading through and splashing each other in under a bright yellow sun was raging with white crested rapids under a blanket of deep grey clouds, and it was far too fast moving for the kids to go in. The baby was awake most of the night both nights (not out of the ordinary for him, unfortunately) but when I finally got him back to sleep and snuck out of the bed at 3am to stumble into the damp darkness to pee, he rolled out. There were tick bites, and fits about wet feet; I forgot to pack the eggs for the epic breakfast I’d planned; the wood was too soggy to start a fire and everything was soaked. Soaked to the core. And my three year old decided that he doesn’t like s’mores. I mean, sorry bud, but… like… who doesn’t like s’mores?? So when we had a short break from the rain, I hit a well of inspiration and literally danced to the tent to get my camera and grab some shots of my guys. My plan was to grab a collection of cute photos of Summit to mark his 3/4 of a year earthside.  Five frames in and my battery bit the dust. Cue my internal five minute fit of rage. I bet you think there’s a silver living on the way, but not so much. For the most part the weekend was a huge bust.

So we tried again at home two weeks later on a warm sunny Sunday following the kids’ afternoon naps.  Covyn is still sleepy-eyed and gazing into the distance in most of the photos and Summit is his classic goofy-grinned self.  Just as I know and love them.

Moral of the story:  sometimes it just rains.  But sunny days always lay ahead.  And no matter the weather, there are always going to be these guys and they will always make my heart burst.
