When you live on 26 acres, you have a massive pile of lumber sitting beside your outdoor woodstove, and your almost two year old dressed as a lumberjack for Halloween, how can you not make use of a 50 degree day in mid-November to take some photos?
I think I had far more fun with this shoot than my little guy may have. Although I only shot for about a half hour, he wasn’t too pleased that my hands weren’t free to play, so when he grabbed for my camera and the pocket of my hooded sweatshirt all at once and said “Put in pocket, Mommy,” there was no way I wasn’t going to comply and get busy doing our usual exploration of the woods and trails together.
There are no words that could possibly encompass how much I love this boy. But more than that, I admire him deeply for the person I already see taking shape. He is kind – you cannot sneeze within hearing distance of him without him stopping whatever he’s doing, making direct eye contact with you and saying “Gah bwess you”; he is thoughtful to the point of even apologizing to the dog when he’s blocking her path to wherever she’s headed… ‘I’m sawwy, Joey’; and for a kid who isn’t even two yet, he’s pretty darn responsible – if something spills, he’s the first one there with a dishtowel to clean it and even the tiniest fleck of lint on the carpet needs to be picked up between his little fingers and promptly delivered to the trash can, and his favorite activity is helping me do the “lahndree”; he is free and easy, playful and contemplative, as curious and wild as they come, lovey as all get out, and every single day I wonder how I got so lucky to call him mine.
