œPlay keeps us vital and alive. It gives us an enthusiasm for life that is irreplaceable. Without it, life just doesn’t taste good. -Lucia Cappochione-
The Ecks are a family that know how to play together and you’ll see how much they enjoy one another by the look of delight on their faces in every photo.
After Kristen contacted me to schedule a session, it didn’t take her long for her to come up with a location that fit her family’s character: Normanskill Farm. She told me through email that she and her family (her husband, Lee, and their children Amanda and Drew) live a few miles from the river and on hot days they like to visit the old Normanskill Bridge (part of what the locals know as the small remaining section of Bethlehem’s original “Yellow Brick Road”) and then wander down to the river to dip their feet in.
I met with the family on a balmy evening in May. After spending half the sessions taking relaxed shots in a few different locations, it was time to get down to
business play and head to the river for a splash.
There I got to the pleasure of bearing witness to boisterous, raucous moments (a family ‘splash-off’), silly moments (Amanda decorating Drew’s face with warrior dirt), and loving and nurturing moments between them all. The majority of the latter half of the session was captured candidly, showing this family in a light that portrays them as real and as playful as they are.
I hope the Eck family can taste every moment of the fun they have together when they look at these shots in the days and years to come.
