My family has a summer place just a few miles north of Schroon Lake; we go there frequently to enjoy the pristine town beach and gaze at the view from the top of the hill. On a recent visit one hot day in mid-July, I stood at the beach looking out over the water, thinking about how beautiful this exact spot was, and I began to lament the fact that I hadn’t yet photographed at this very location.
Later that evening, I sat down after dinner with a cup of coffee and took out my cell to check my email. There in my inbox was an inquiry from a woman named Jessica, who was interested in booking me to shoot her wedding. My heart did a little leap. Need I say that shooting weddings is my absolute favorite?! I instantly responded and over the next few days, Jessica and I finalized the details of booking her and Ryan’s 2016 wedding date. Discussions soon turned to engagement photos and Jessica asked if I’d be willing to do a little extra travelling because she and Ryan had the perfect location in mind. Imagine my delight when I learned that they wanted to do their engagement photos at the very spot I’d longed to shoot at on Schroon Lake! The whole thing was just meant to be!
Although Jessica and Ryan were born and raised in New Jersey, Jessica has spent summers vacationing at her family camp on Schroon Lake. Over the years, Ryan has grown to love it as much as she and now it’s a special place for them to come together to get away from life for a little and breathe in the renewing Adirondack air. So what better place on earth to get romantic in front of the lens and celebrate their love?
As for the shoot itself…ahh… so many great feelings…! Despite the fact that it was pouring rain when we started, it quickly tapered into a drizzle and then stopped altogether and a gorgeous, orange, post-rain glow set in. The air was just cool enough, the subjects were stunningly photogenic, and the colors in the trees, the clouds, the lake, and the flowers… just yum!
I am so excited to shoot Jessica and Ryan’s wedding next July at one of my favorite ever venues, the Adirondack’s very own Burlap and Beams! So stay tuned for part two of their journey toward forever.
