2014 Year in Review

Welcome to my 2014 Year in Review post.  It’s late.  Later than late.  But some things are better done late than never. Amiright?

Choosing these images from the thousands upon thousands of photos I shot this year was super difficult.  I mean, how does one represent the many hundreds and thousands of emotions and moments captured in a session or wedding day and summarize it with one single photo?  The answer:  one doesn’t.  Choosing an image from each session is the kind of task that could very easily leave me in a daze before my screen with eyes bloodshot from staring, hips aching from sitting too long, and hair a mess upon my head as I try my best not to rip it right out.

But reviewing where 2014 took me should be fun, right? Absolutely!

And so, when I sat down to compile the photos for this post, I decided straight away not to let this little project cause me undo stress.  Instead of obsessing over the photos I would include in this post, I simply returned to each session and wedding I shot and quickly scanned each gallery until I landed on the photo that drew my eye, that captivated my heart.  I can assure you that the images I chose aren’t necessarily the best image or even my favorite from each shoot.  And they absolutely do no justice in representing the full scope of emotions that a larger gallery of images captures.  No single image could. They’re simply the photos that spoke to me in the moment.  Were I to sit down and go through the process of choosing these photos all over again tomorrow, I can promise you that I’d choose a collection of entirely different shots.  But that’s what made this task so much fun to begin with.  And it’s what makes photography so much fun to begin with.  An image that speaks to you today may not have the words to captivate you tomorrow.  And your favorite image tomorrow may be the one you glanced right past today.  Photos not only make us feel, but they speak to the emotions that we’re already feeling when we view them.

The faces smiling at you in the following set represent the wide range of amazing subjects I had the honor of photographing this year.  From engagements to new babies; from wide-eyed little ones, to joyful wedding celebrations, this year was so plentiful it made my heart feel like it might explode from sheer glee.

For the amazing folks featured in these photos:  thank you. Thank you.  For choosing me to capture your memories; for entrusting me with some of your most precious moments:  there is no greater honor.  Truly and sincerely.  My “work” is my joy. My cup runneth over.
